Animation in Bangladesh

The Journey of animated story telling in Bangladesh started in early 90s with it’s most popular animation stories of all time “Meena” which was a story of a country girl and her journey of breaking the stereotype and perusing her dreams.

The final episode of meena was release in early 2000 and it was translated into 27 languages and broadcasted in over 10 countries. Since then the animation industry of Bangladesh started to take a dive and slowly the number of production has gone low.

Some random attempt of bringing back the glory of animated story telling was taken a few times, although none of those attempts seem to last longer. Although there are children TV channel in Bangladesh, the content are broadcasted in those channels are foreign content dubbed in bengali language. As a result the kids of Bangladesh are heavily addictive on foreign language stories like Doraemon or Shin Chan in hindi language. The only Bengali content the kids can watch is produced in Kolkata or west bengal of India which has it’s own accent and words that are not similar to the culture of Bangladesh.

With times the problem only got bigger as the kids are now more comfortable in speaking hindi or other language more than their mother tongue which is creating more problem in the long run than realized.

To address this issues Togo Kids an youtube based learning channel for kids started making animated content for kids. The priorities are cultural legendary poems such as Mona re Mona or Amader Choto Nodi and other poems or rhymes featured in the books of class one or two.

The CEO of Togo Kids said;

We believe kids learn better when taught through songs or interactive visual.

Moreover, Togo also produces nursery lessons like alphabets or numbers in English and Bengali dialect.

In coming future Togo will also produce diverse animated and regular content for kids learning and will keep on producing kidsfriendly content for the Children of Bangladesh.
